6 Tips to Maximize Your Business Pinterest

Pinterest is an incredible tool for growing your business, but making it work takes more than just pretty pins. Whether you’re new to the platform or looking to refine your strategy, these six tips will help you maximize your efforts. From creating eye-catching content to staying consistent, these simple strategies will set you up to connect with your ideal audience and grow your reach. Read on to get all the tips and start maximizing your Pinterest right away!

1. Use Vertical Pins

Ever wonder why some pins grab your attention while others get scrolled past? It’s all about the format. Vertical pins are the way to go—they take up more space on the screen, which means they’re harder to miss. A 2:3 aspect ratio (think 1000 x 1500 pixels) is ideal.

PRO TIP: Canva has gorgeous, easy-to-use templates that fit this size perfectly. Need inspiration? Head over to my Pinterest to see how I create pins that stand out.

2. Post Consistently

Here’s the deal: Pinterest loves consistency. You don’t need to flood the platform with pins, but showing up regularly matters. Aim for 1–2 pins per day. Don’t worry—you don’t have to log in every single day to make it happen. Batch your pins in advance and use Pinterest’s native scheduling tool to keep things running smoothly.

PRO TIP: When scheduling directly on Pinterest, use “Create Pin for ad” under the Paid category. It might seem strange if you’re not running ads, but trust me—using the Organic “Create Pin” can affect your reach on Pinterest.

3. Experiment and Analyze Your Pins

Not every pin is going to hit it out of the park, and that’s okay. The key is to mix things up and see what works. Try infographics, quotes, or beautiful portfolio images to see what resonates with your audience. Once you find out what they like, make more!

Keep an eye on:

  • ENGAGEMENTS: Saves, clicks, and reactions to your Pins.

  • OUTBOUND CLICKS: The number of people clicking your pin to go to your site.

PRO TIP: Impressions, or times your pins are shown on screen, are nice, but they don’t tell the full story. Engagements and outbound clicks are the numbers that you should be watching to see if your content is converting.

4. Stretch Your Content

If you blog, you should be getting multiple fresh pins from each blog post. What’s a “fresh pin”? A “fresh pin” is a new image to Pinterest. It can be for a new URL or one you already pinned. When creating your fresh pins, experiment with titles, images, quotes, and audience.

Ideas for fresh pins:

  • Key quotes from your blog

  • Different images or graphics with text overlay

  • Target specific audiences by adjusting your keywords

  • Infographics showing a visual representation of your post

For many of my clients, I aim for between 4-6 images per post, depending on what makes sense for their content. This makes it easier to track analytics to see what’s working!

5. Use Keywords for SEO

Pinterest is a visual search engine, so SEO is everything. Keywords help your content show up in searches, making it easier for the right audience to find you. Start by adding keywords naturally to your pin titles, descriptions, board titles, and even your profile bio.

To find relevant keywords, type your niche or topic into Pinterest’s search bar and see what suggestions pop up. These are the terms people are actively searching for. For more places to find keywords, check out this post!

PRO TIP: Make sure to save your images with keyword-rich file names before uploading them to Pinterest—it’s a small step that can make a big difference!

6. Follow Others in Your Industry

Pinterest will have a better idea of what kind of business you have if you follow similar accounts. As a result, your pins are more likely to be shown under similar recommendations, leading more traffic to your site. Are you a wedding photographer? Follow other wedding photographers and wedding industry vendors like stationers, florists, planners, etc.

And there you have it! Six simple yet powerful strategies to take your Pinterest game from good to great. It's all about understanding your audience, pinning with strategy, and staying consistent with your efforts. So, go ahead—put these tips into action and watch your business grow!
